SCIENCE CONSULTANT

Scott Hartman
Director of Science, Wyoming Dinosaur Centre

Scott Hartman is a paleontologist and Director of Science at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. His research has centered on the biomechanics and phylogeny of dinosaurs, notably an emphasis on the evolution of birds. His skeletal reconstructions have appeared in museums on 5 continents, in several books and technical papers, and served as the anatomical basis for numerous artistic reconstructions.

Mineo Shiraishi

Mineo Shiraishi is a Japanese paleoartist born in 1953. While he conducts painstaking research to ensure the accuracy of his drawings, Mineo's primary concern is to capture the natural beauty of these long-dead animals. He seeks to inspire those who see his art, particularly younger people.

Mineo has gained international acclaim for his work from well-respected museums, TV stations, and publishers in the USA, Australia, Netherlands, England, Germany and Canada. He provides images to NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) education programs and his work featured in the BBC program "Dinosaur Detectives". CARD-O-SAURUS (distributed by Jam System), a card collection of his dinosaurs, has gained high popularity among people of all ages while Sony Digital Entertainment uses his images for their mobile website "Planet of the Dinosaur".

Other notable clients include:

  • Walt Disney, Disney Adventure Magazine
  • American Museum of Natural History
  • Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Jaime Headden

Avimimus, Saurornithoides

From the tender age of 8 when Jaime modeled clay dinosaurs he has been hooked on these interesting, never-seen-before animals. Later he got hold of Grolier's Encyclopedia D volume and saw Rudolf Zalingers's famous Mural "Life Through the Ages", and a copy of Don Glut's Dinosaur Dictionary where began to draw dinosaurs furiously, and saw that there was more to dinosaurs than putting skin on them....

GLOSSARY RESTORATIONS

The generosity of the following professional and amateur paleoartists is gratefully acknowledged. Special thanks to Ezequiel Vera, Sergio Perez and Nobumichi Tamura who created and donated a number of dinosaur restorations. Thanks to T. Michael Keesey for assistance in contacting some artists.

Leading contributors

Ezequiel Vera

Ezequiel graduated from the Universidad de Buenos Aires where he majored in Genetics and Evolution, particularly as they related to paleontology. In 2005, he started work at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia". His current Ph.D. studies, under the direction of Dr. Silvia Césari's direction, focuses on studying Aptian ferns recovered from the Cerro Negro Formation of Antarctica using an anatomical and evolutionary approach.

Web: deviantART, Paleovera, Picassa, Windows Live (in Spanish)

Sergio Pérez

Sergio Pérez was born in 1989. He is currently studying biology with a view to specializing in zoology and paleontology in the next years. When very young he was inspired to draw dinosaurs when he saw the stop motion creations in "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" and "One Million Years B.C.". In the last 2 years he has undertaken a "serious" attempt in doing scientific restorations when he discovered what can be achieved with a scanner and Photoshop. He had rapid success when he was asked to do drawings of several Miocene mammals for a project of the paleontology department of his University. Apart from drawing he is an amateur birdwatcher, and enjoys animal photography.

Web: deviantART

Nobumichi Tamura

Nobumichi improvised himself as an amateur paleoartist in 2006, drawing dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals as a hobby, and posting some of his artworks on Wikipedia under the alias "ArthurWeasley" (he is a big fan of J.K. Rowling's novels). Besides paleontology, he is also interested in ancient civilizations, astronomy, and wildlife photography.
